HoNCAB Second Interim meeting – Lyon

The HoNCAB consortium, Second Interim Meeting, 9 July 2014, Lyon (France)

The 9th and the 10th of July, the HoNCAB consortium held its Second Interim meeting in Lyon, France. This meeting was an opportunity to present the results achieved and to define the next steps to be undertaken during the last year of the project.

The most significant result achieved is the activation of the Web Based Application (WBA) through which those hospitals involved in the HoNCAB Hospital Network are able to share and exchange cross-border patients’ data hospitalised in their structures. Information collected and uploaded on the WBA are socio-demographic data, economic data and treatment related data. Such information are collected from local databases and through two dedicated questionnaires administered to eligible patients enrolled in the study. The questionnaires respectively investigate patients’ perception on quality of care received; patients’ motivation to seek treatment abroad and patients’ satisfaction with the reimbursement procedure (whether successful).

This result is significant in consideration of the fact that this is the first experience of data interchange among EU NHSs of today patients’ data.

Future project’s activities consist in the analysis of the data collected and the publication of results in a final report published at the end of the project. Also, the project will investigate several aspects of the combination of tourism and the cross-border care.

Lastly, the meeting was an opportunity to foster the interconnection among Work Packages results and to promote the achievement of the HoNCAB’s goals. A dedicated framework was developed underlining the main thematic areas (as patient flow, financial dimension of patient mobility and administrative issues like prior authorization and reimbursement) in which Work Packages have to cooperate. By linking all the achieved results, the project will be able to produce considerations and recommendations on the implementation of the Directive 2011/24/EU.
